Excellent Leather Shop builds leather jackets and costume pieces by matching them frame-by-frame to film and TV footage—not by guessing at “inspired by.” If a rivet sits an inch off in the original, it sits an inch off in ours. That standard is what most costume replica sellers skip, and it’s why customers come back to us.
We’re a team of pattern drafters, cutters, and finishers who spend as much time studying footage as we do cutting leather. Every commission starts the same way: not with a general idea of “that jacket from that movie,” but with an actual frame-by-frame reference file we build before a single pattern piece is cut.
That’s the difference between building from footage and building from memory. Most leather goods sellers work from a photo or two and fill in the gaps with whatever’s convenient. We treat the gaps as the part of the job that actually matters.
How a Jacket Gets Made
Five steps, every time, from reference to finished piece.
Reference sourcing
We pull 30–40+ frames per garment across different scenes, lighting conditions, and angles, so we’re working from a complete picture rather than a single promotional still.
Pattern drafting
Panel shapes, seam placement, and proportions are drafted directly against the reference set, not adapted from a generic jacket block.
Material matching
Leather grain, weight, and finish are matched to what’s visible on screen, including how the material moves and catches light.
Hardware sourcing
Zippers, snaps, buckles, and studs are sourced to match original hardware profiles, including placement—details that get skipped most often.
Hand finishing
Final stitching, distressing, and detailing are done by hand and checked against the reference set before anything ships.
"Inspired by" leaves room to skip the hard parts. Frame-matched construction doesn't.

Q) How is this different from a “replica” seller?
Most replica sellers work from a single reference photo and approximate everything else by eye. We build a full frame-by-frame reference file for each garment before cutting a single pattern piece, then check construction—not just silhouette—against that file at every stage.
Q) Can you match a jacket that isn’t in your catalog yet?
In most cases, yes. If you can point us to the source footage, screenshots, or promotional stills, our pattern drafters can scope a custom commission from that reference—this is actually the majority of what we build each month, not the exception.
Q) Do you size to measurements or standard sizing?
Both are available, and neither one compromises the other. Standard sizing covers most in-stock orders and ships faster; our custom measurement form is available at checkout for anyone who wants a made-to-fit piece built to their exact frame.
Q) Where do you ship, and how long does an order take?
We ship worldwide. Because most jackets are built to order rather than pulled from stock, production time runs longer than off-the-shelf retailers—worth factoring in if you’re ordering for a specific date.
